 jimmyd _writes "My phone rang this morning and it was this guy who's the owner of a certain porn company. He was calling to wish me a happy Thanksgiving. "How sweet," I thought, but not in a gay way cuz, you know, straight guys can think shit like "How sweet," too. But remember, I said "think," not say.
So anyway, after hurling some 'have a great turkey day' wishes at each other, we kinda shot the shit for a bit; you know, the usual shit that guys shoot. Then he tells about a phone call he got from someone at AVN.
"You're gonna love this phone call I got from some chic at AVN," he says.
"What about?" I inquire.
"She was calling to remind me that we hadn't sent in screeners for our AVN nomination," he says.
"And?" I say.
"And so I ask how many do we send." he said.
"Okay... and?" I nudge him again.
"And she says twenty copies!?
"Yeah... and?" I ask again.
"I said, 'What are you crazy? Twenty copies! You don't need twenty copies of my movie. You need like four or five."
"And she says?" I say.
"She says it's required to send twenty copies. So I say I'm not gonna give you twenty copies. And she says 'It's required!' And I say, "Well, then you can just take back my AVN nomnination because I'm not giving you twenty copies.'"
"And then?" I ask.
"And then I said goodbye and hung up. I'm not gonna give them twenty copies of my movie!"
He kept talking about this and getting more and more riled up every time he thought of the twenty copies. Then he started going on about companies that get fifty or sixty nomninations and how they gotta send a thousand or more copies of their movies. And then he's saying how all this means AVN gets thousands and thousands of free copies of movies and what the fuck do they do with all that product?
"I dunno," I said into the phone.
"Well you should know," the guy says, "You're JimmyD and you write about all this stuff so you should know."
"Well, I don't," I said. "I'm not an investigative journalist like them other guys who write about this porn shit."
So after awhile we said our goodbyes with more "happy turkey day" wishes.
And there you have it: one company owner who would rather not have an AVN nomination if it means giving out twenty free copies.
Who would'a thought?
