Welcome to the jizz biz, Gene!

Yeah, yeah... I know, you were working the porn beat when I was still trying to figure out what a C-Light was used for or something. But the beat you were working then, Gino, was a very different beat than the beat you're working now. And I don't mean any of this disrespectfully.

Ya see, back then, Mr. Ross received timely, secure, and regular paychecks from his employer, AVN. And I doubt he spent too much time worrying about Paul Fishbein being a deadbeat.

And while Ross and many other XXX Biz luminaries were collecting guaranteed paychecks from solid employers, many of the rest of us (myself included, excluding the time I spent running Sin City's post-production department) spent our time working a different porn beat: one that required chasing our money and sometimes--too many times--getting fucked in the the ass for our efforts.

And, sometimes not.

For instance, I'm sure Gene remembers the time he played go-between between money owed me by a lovely guy named Bo. (Many of you might know Bo, and if you don't--trust me--you probably don't want to know him.) Anyway, there was this edited master of some show Bo funded that I had in my possession. And then Bo decided to fuck with me over my money. But stupidly, Bo let that be known while I was still holding his master. So not only did it cost him the price of the editing, I charged him a daily (and hefty) "storage" fee for just holding onto the tape until he paid. And he did pay--usurious storage fee and all. And Gene kindly and graciously acted as the go-between, handing me the dough as I handed him the master which he later handed to Bo.

But that was then and this is now. And now Gene joins the rest of us plying this shit we do and spending far too much of our time trying to collect what is owed us.

Like I said, welcome to the jizz biz, Gene. I feel for ya, pal.

And on a not so remote note, there's the story running on Ross's site about Sharon Mitchell owing Jeff Marton, of Evil Angel, a grand and Sharon, at first, going South on the debt and then, supposedly, repaying a portion of it with AIM funds.

Marton admits that it wasn't the first or last time he got burned by a chic in the jizz biz for cash. Well said, Jeff. I like, admire, and respect that kind of honesty. I've been burned myself in similar circumstances. Maybe I'll name some names myself sometime.

But the only reason Jeff thinks this experience of his is newsworthy is that he believes Mitchell repaid him with AIM funds. Now I don't know if that's true or not, and the way Jeff tells it, it would appear there's some evidence--at least if you accept Jeff's word on it--but I think I'd be remiss if I didn't make a few observations based on my years in this business.

Here goes: Someone in the porn industry took money from a company or an individual or an institution and used that money for personal gain? Oh my God! Who would'a thought? Surely that doesn't often happen!

C'mon people, gimme a fucking break! This business is overly-populated by a bunch of dirty rotten scoundrels who don't think twice about putting money that doesn't belong to them, or that is earmarked for something else (like production funds, etc.) into their own pockets. That's the way this shit works. It's almost an unwritten rule that it's okay to steal, provided you know where the line is, i.e., how much is okay to steal. Jesus H. Christ! Pocketing some cash should be a line item on most production budgets.

I just love it when I hear people publicly say shit like, "I don't rob from anyone." What a crock of shit! Just about everyone in this business robs. Yep, just about everyone.

So maybe Mitchie took a couple of bucks... I don't know if she did or not, but big fucking deal. Who hasn't and who doesn't? And if anyone steps forward and says they're a director, or a producer, or a company owner, or a salesman, or whatever, and that they've never stolen a fucking dime... not one fucking dime... while working this industry, I say you're full of shit. I mean, nigger please! Go tell that shit to your Mom.

Or, as they say down in Texas, "That dog don't hunt!"
