Do not panic, your gonads are not trying to flee. Testicles rise and descend to attempt to maintain a constant temperature to produce sperm. If the temp drops, the whole nutsack is compact so the nuts can huddle together for warmth. If it gets too hot, the testicles try to descend to cool off.

Thanks Jay, I feel much better knowing I either have huddling nuts or cooling balls. I imagine this also explains what happens to my dick when I swim in very cold water, but fails to explain why it doesn't get that much bigger in a warm bath. Perhaps you could write something regarding the techniques Sumo wrestlers use to pull their nuts up into their groins when wrestling. This could be a big help to readers who often end up getting kicked in the balls, and I'm sure there's more than a few other curious readers who have inquiring minds on this subject.
