I'm excited for my friends, Jewel De'Nyle, Michael Stefano, and Brandon Iron, and I wish them the best as they launch their new company, Platinum Pictures. These three have made a lot of money for others in the time they've been in this business. It's time they started making more for themselves.

One of my predictions for 2003 said we'd be seeing more and more talent, producers, and directors making their own product and owning their own content. I doubt if these three will be the last in 2003 to make such an announcement. Existing companies who rely on 'name' talent and directors are going to have to begin sharing the wealth if they want to continue counting on their stables of well-known plow-mules to make their wallets fat.

In their press release, Platinum Pictures says they're going to "Revolutionize the adult business." When I first read that, I shook my head and thought to myself, "Right... You're going to revolutinize the business. And just how are you going to do that?" I thought I could have some great fun with that one. But then I realized that what they're doing, what others will also do, and what a few have already done, is revolutionizing the business. And some of the fat cats aren't too happy about it.

Back in the 60's there was a very popular anti-war poster that read: "What if they gave a war and nobody came?" I'm not comparing today's adult industry with the anti-war sentiments of the 60's, but I would like to paraphrase that poster: "What if Vivid, or VCA, or Wicked, or Sin City gave a porn shoot and nobody came?" At least, no one who mattered. You see what I'm saying here? Those companies--and others as well--rely heavily on their plow-mules to make their product and to make them money. These companies also invest publicity dollars back into their plow-mules to make them 'stars' of sorts. Why? Because name-recognition helps to sell product. But what happens when you create that name recognition, but don't allow the 'names' to share in the rewards? Well, companies like Platinum Pictures happens, Club Jenna happens, Evil Angel happens, JKP happens, Avalon and Elite Multi-Media happens, Red Light District happens, unfortunately, even Extreme happens.

I'm not saying this revolution is going to happen overnight. But it's going to happen. No one has a stranglehold on the distribution of product any longer. There was a time it was a closed business, but that was then and this is now. And now is the time we're going to see wholesale changes in this business; that is, unless we're all assimilated by the LFP/Borg Empire first.
