A little-known porn fact is that many who toil in the porn mines are less interested in monetary rewards than in simple recognition and acknowledgement for their hard and sometimes dangerous work.

Today I received an email from Heidi Pike-Johnson, a VIP at AVN, and it’s obvious from her words that Heidi is one who sometimes places recognition above other considerations. Heidi’s email refers to the photo I lifted for use in my recent article concerning First Amendment activist, Al Goldstein.

Heidi wrties: “Hi...I took this photo for AVNInsider.com sitting on his pigeon-infested West Hollywood deck back when I did a two-part interview of the man for that site. Any chance I could get a photo credit?”

Jimmyd sez: Heidi, I apologize for not attributing to you this candid photo of the very boisterous Al Goldstein. I can certainly see why receiving credit for it would be important.

First off, the technical aspects of the photo are truly impressive. I especially like the way you ‘lit’ the shot, that is, the lighting is completely natural, as evidenced by your use of a 3:1 key-to-fill ratio. Composition is perfect, and the open and candid expression on Al’s face speaks volumes. Al seems both relaxed, and yet intent on expressing his concern for the travesties of justice that he suffers at the hands of political forces determined to undermine our American foundation of freedom and liberty.

It’s said that one picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case a thousand words is not adequate to describe all that this photo conveys. The dangers you braved, from both being in Al’s presence, and from the pigeons and their excrement, is a testament to your unwavering quest to seek truth in your camera’s eye.
