SHAWN RICKS UPDATE

 jimmyd _writes "Wow! Word sure gets around fast. I post a little item about Shawn Ricks getting sued and less than half an hour later I get a phone call from Doug of Coastline Entertainment.
Doug tells me that Coastline Entertainment is the plaintiff in the Shawn Ricks matter, and that Ricks is scheduled to appear in court this coming Tuesday.
According to Doug, Ricks promised Coastline, and some investors, a Spice Channel deal in exchange for $2,000 to record behind-the-scenes footage for a low-budget skin flick Coastline was involved with and the investors funded. To put this in perspective, producers usually pay someone two to three hundred dollars to shoot behind-the-scenes stuff.
How can Ricks promise a Spice Channel deal, you ask? Well, according to Doug, Ricks is juiced in with the Playboy-owned Spice Channel, i.e., Doug says Ricks' long-time girlfriend is a content buyer for Spice.
So here we have a deal where 2 gets you 4... thousand dollars that is. I guess that's not too bad of a deal--100% return on your money even if it's not all that much money. But hey, your money gets doubled, what's wrong with that? But here's the rub-- After the deal went down, and Ricks received a check from the Spice Channel, Ricks allegedly reneged on the deal and kept the $4K for himself. So instead of Coastline getting 4 for 2, they gave 2 for nothing.
Coastline's Doug didn't hesitate to use words like "scam" and "fraud" when refering to this matter. He further told me that these are the kind of words that will be used when presenting this to the judge. Doug says Coastline has a copy of the cancelled check issued to Ricks for the license agreement for the flick that is at the center of this case, as well as a signed agreement promising the Spice deal and the license funds.
I guess it all comes out in the wash on Tuesday. Anyone think Ricks' girl should be dusting off her resume?
