PORNOGRAPHERS AS ROLE MODELS? I HOPE NOT. :: Simply Jimmy D :: Breakin' News or Breakin' Balls: It's all the same to me!

jimmyd _writes "I was reading Mason’s new article on AVNInsider. You know who Mason is, right? She’s that newish (I said newish, not Jewish, although for all I know she might be Jewish, and if so, she'd be that newish Jewish) female director that’s been hyped extremely well for someone who ain't done all that much—anyway, she's the one who won’t show her face which is sometimes hidden behind one of them A-Rab Birqa thingees. You know the one. So Mason wrote this piece that kinda made me wonder if--as pornographers--we are actually role models for anyone out there. You see, what I’m thinking is that I hope we’re not role models, because if we are, we’re sometimes modeling some really fucked up behavior.

Here’s a snippet of what Mason had to say: “There’s something bizarre about watching women get slapped, ass-fucked and verbally degraded, day after day. Bizarre, in that becoming immersed within a world where such acts are a daily ritual, one begins to take for granted and become desensitized by the relentlessness of watching beautiful people fuck like mindless pigs.”

Now I’m thinking--you know, just thinking out loud-- that women getting slapped as a daily ritual isn’t just bizarre, in fact under almost any other circumstances it’s illegal. You don’t think so? Try slapping your wife or girlfriend and then have her complain to the police and see what happens. You’re going off to jail. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. These days the cops have very little discretion in such matters. At least in the State of California they don’t. California has zero tolerance for what they call spousal abuse. And if you’re slapping your wife or girlfriend on a daily basis, she’s going to be considered a victim of what’s called the “battered wife syndrome.”

But then, this is porn. It’s fantasy. It’s (hopefully) a way for people to sort of vicariously experience their dark little quirks without hurting anyone. So maybe it’s okay.

But I still hope what we do here doesn’t qualify as role modeling for others. That would not be too cool, you know what I mean?
