SPECIAL PRAYERS FOR PORNERS

JimmyD sez: Let’s call a spade a spade here: No one in this business is going to court to defend “freedom of expression.” They’re going to court to defend their right to make a living off of smut. While the right to make a living off of smut comes under the umbrella of “freedom of expression” (actually, freedom of speech, i.e., the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution), none of these people are, per se, First Amendment advocates fighting the good fight to preserve everyone’s rights. Their fighting the fight to preserve their own rights; just like I’d fight to preserve mine if it came to that.
It kind of sticks in my craw when I read this kind of stuff! (And maybe sometime I'll write something about some of my personal history and tell you why it does.) You see, it’s all made to sound like all of a sudden anyone who runs afoul of the law on an obscenity beef is suddenly a shining knight fighting for us all. Yeah, I think we should support these folks because by doing so we reduce the chances of ourselves becoming targets of opportunity for the smut-police. And there’s nothing wrong with supporting one’s own self-preservation. But let’s stop with the fucking sanctifying of our peers and associates when they get into a jam.
P.S. Aren’t any of these “several porn stars” saying we should say a “special prayer” for Extreme Associates? I guess not, huh… I guess they’re just a bunch of dirty pornographers trying to get themselves out of a jam, while those mentioned (who are worthy of our “special prayers”) are more interested in maintaining all Americans’ rights to freedom of speech?
