WHAT'S CHILD PORN GOT TO DO WITH WHAT WE DO?

jimmyd _writes "AVN.com is currently running a story that is child porn related. It seems to me I remember them doing this before, i.e., running articles relevant to child porn. But every time I read one of these articles, I keep asking myself, “What’s this got to do with us?” AVN doesn’t run stories about Enron or Martha Stewart (at least, I don't ever remember them running stories like that). And that's probably because Enron and Martha Stewart have nothing to do with the adult jizz biz. So why do they run stories about child porn? Maybe that's not a good example. How's this one: AVN doesn't usually run stories about what's going on in mainstream Hollywood (unless the story directly connects to our industry). And they don't run these Tinseltown stories even though mainstream Hollywood makes movies; just like we do. Mainstream Hollywood also has stars and directors and producers and distributors; just like we do.--yet AVN still doesn't run generic stories about mainstream Hollywood. Is that a better example?
I have no idea why AVN considers matters related to child porn relevant to the adult entertainment industry that I work in. But it seems that every time they run one of these articles it's like saying (by some kind of inference) that we are connected to child pornographers. I take fucking exception to that inference! I know I don't have anything to do with child pornography. As far as I'm aware, no one I know in this business has anything to do with it. So I certainly don't like being connected to child porn by some kind of loose association—intentional or otherwise!
It seems like every time a mainstream news organization runs something about the adult entertainment industry they manage to work the words “child porn” into the story--and when they do, it pisses me off.
But here’s our industry’s main trade publication doing exactly the same fucking thing! And when AVN runs these stories, it seems to me that they're playing into the hands of those who have tried to associate us with child pornographers.
Hey guys! Every time you decide some story that has to do with child porn is newsworthy (to the adult biz), it’s like you’re saying its part of us—part of our greater whole. I know that's not the way it is--and I know you're not intentionally trying to connect us to child porn--but as far as I’m concerned, that's what you're doing.
Just my take on it.
If you'd like to comment on this story, here's a good place to do so.
