You gotta love that Paul Flashburn over at lukeford.com. In his column today, Paul takes aim at some major problems infesting the Porn Biz, and offers it up as things we should be self-policing. Personally, I couldn't agree with him more. For even though most of what Paul wrote we all already know to be true, it still needs to be told over and over and over.
Here's a snip of what Paul wrote: 'You see, we have a ton of complete scumbags running the show at many adult production companies. We have scumbags posing as major producers trying to snooker girls to work for them. We have absolute scumbags who pose as agents as they try to pimp out girls and treat them like dogshit. The adult industry is loaded to the hilt with morons who flunk out of one company to another. Yet they somehow manage to come back...'
Personally, I've never met Paul. At least I don't now if I've ever met him, because truthfully, I don't know his real identity. So I don't know how much first-hand information Paul has regarding his oh-so-true words. But I know that I'm an eye witness to what he's written, and I'll 100% vouch for his words.
More of what Paul wrote: '...there are companies that intentionally bounce checks, there are start-up companies that rip off editors and directors, there are webmasters ripping off talent and companies, there are agents pimping out girls and sucking all the money out of them, there are directors who try to sell the same, used content to other companies to earn more money, there are many people out there promising the girls superstardom only if they'll work for a discount for just one scene. It is a business rife with blithering weasels.'
You know, I never knew that I knew what a 'blithering weasel' was, but now I know that I do. Again, I'll vouch for Paul's words.
Paul continues: 'Anyway you look at it, the adult industry is a business. Bar none. A business. Yes, there are sluts and whores getting nailed in the ass for money. But it's still a business. There are too many 'million dollar' directors and producers out there using their patented 'used car salesman' tactics leeching themselves to anybody with a little dough and ripping people off blind. You know who they are. The Damien Michaels, the Trevors, and all those fucking agents promising fame and fortune meanwhile scrounging for places to sleep and counting their nickels.'
Paul, I'll take a little exception with you here. If only the problems were as serious as Damien or Trevor, there'd be no problems. If these guys represent the problem, the problem is no greater than needing a fly swatter. You see Paul, the real problem, i.e., the real problem people, have a bit more juice in the biz then these two juice-free guys. The truly problematic people connect themselves to a symbiotic host; a host who is also every bit the 'blithering weasel' the problem guy is. Difference is, the host has grown fat and sassy in the biz and camoflages himself as something other than what he truly is. It's like the old adage about wolves in sheep's clothing. In the jiz biz, we don't have a wolf or two marrauding a herd of sheep, we have herds of wolves (ok, packs), marrauding the sheep.
Paul finishes with: 'That's how the adult industry should police itself. By getting rid of all the cancers and the con artists and the vagrants. It is a curable disease. Backstabbing sometimes seem to be a way of life. I mean, how many times have you seen an agent demand a fee for a girl he never represented? How many million dollar offers can a guy promote when he doesn't even have enough money to buy a hotdog at the local 7-11. How many bridges can a motherfucker burn before he's banned by the industry? Think about it. You know who they are.'
You're right, Paul. We do know who they are. And they ain't windmills.
